The Tragedy Of Commons, A Question Left For All Of Us #thoughts

The term comes from Garrett James Hardin (Science Paper, 1968) who warned of the dangers of overpopulation.  He called attention to 'the damage that innocent actions by individuals can inflict on the enviroment.  He also said  "We can never do merely one thing.  Any intrusion into nature has numerous effects, many of which are unpredictable".  For why its happened, Hardin blamed the welfare state because allowing the tragedy of the commons, he said that 'freedom in a commons brings ruin to all".  Even its debated by Radkau, Gover and Rackham that said Hardin have no notion about how commons actually work.

The problem we'll see here is about how people, government, or as Hardin said 'the innocent' would hurt the society, by doing something harm, destructive act, just because they dont know yet.  It comes through the complex problem of social system and behaviour that can make the motive of people doing something.  And left by the 'intellectuals' that cant make a bold move to save people, or do they really need or even worth saving?

As in public policy, to make the great of it, the best impact, effect and to affect, its not as easy as its seems.  When it comes to rule, or control the 'commons', it also conflicted with multiple layer that not only needed the one who have a great capability to see through, but also the good negotiator to see from all the different perspectives.  As Nugroho said in its Public Policy's book, the policy would never be the perfect formula, its a long process, tranformative proccess that must have a room for improvement.

Talk about the public policy and government's role at the middle of the society, its always challenging, as the better government needs not only effort by the government only, but also the consciousness from the society and private sector too, to aware, and make a collaborative strategy to have a synergy and try to have less 'damaged' impact to their own.  Finally, each of them must know that its not all about their only perspectives, but every public problem have multiple layer that each of them have their contribution too.
